Recipe Variations and Substitutions

  • If you cannot find jarred pimientos, then you can use jarred roasted bell peppers. Just drain them and dice enough to fill a ⅓ cup measuring cup.
  • Please DO NOT use pre-shredded and packaged cheese. This type of cheese is coated with cornstarch or flour and will not yield the best texture when it’s baked.
  • You can use low-fat cream cheese, but please don’t use fat-free.

Hot Pimento Cheese Dip Serving and Storage Tips

MAKE AHEAD: You can prepare the dip ahead all the way up to baking it. Just cover and stick the unbaked mixture in the fridge until you’re ready to bake it. Be prepared to add 5-10 minutes to the baking time.

SERVE: Serve with tortilla chips, toasted baguette slices, and vegetable sticks.

STORE: Cover and store leftovers in the refrigerator for 4 days.

FREEZE: Because of all the dairy, this recipe does not freeze, thaw, and reheat well.

Pimento vs Red Pepper

Pimentos are red peppers, but not all red peppers are pimentos. Pimentos are a specific variety of sweet, heart-shaped chili pepper. They are smaller than most red peppers and have a milder flavor. Red peppers, on the other hand, can vary in size, shape, and flavor. Some red peppers are sweet, while others are spicy.
