All you need are just 3 ingredients and 5 minutes to make this Dole Whip copycat recipe!

Back in April my family and I visited the Hawaiian island of Oahu. While there we spent some time at the Dole Plantation and of course enjoyed our fair share of the delicious pineapple treat, Dole Whip. It was just the sweet treat we needed to cool us down on a hot and humid Hawaiian day.

Since getting back from Hawaii, I’ve done quite a bit of research about the Dole Whip and how it’s made. Unfortunately, the Dole Whip that is enjoyed and loved by many at the Dole Plantation, Disneyland, and beyond comes in powder form that is mixed with water and then chilled and served through a soft serve machine. This makes it nearly impossible to recreate, but this hasn’t stopped me from trying!

While my Dole Whip is not a complete carbon copy of the original, it comes close. It’s sweet, a little bit tangy, and sooooo refreshing! Plus, it’s dairy-free!

Common Dole Whip Questions Answered:

What is a Dole Whip?

It’s a non-dairy soft serve that was created by the Dole Food Company. While there are 6 Dole Whip fruit flavors (pineapple, orange, raspberry, strawberry, mango, and lemon), pineapple is arguably the most popular.

It’s either served on its own or as a Dole Whip Float which consists of pineapple juice and pineapple soft serve floating on top.

What is the history of the Dole Whip?

The first one came on the scene in 1986 when Disneyland’s Tiki Bar needed something other than pineapple juice and pineapple spears to serve in its Tiki Bar.

What is in the Dole Whip?

In mine there are just 3 ingredients:

  1. frozen pineapple
  2. pineapple juice
  3. canned coconut milk

Is Dole Whip non-dairy?

Yes! Even though there are quite a few recipes online that use sweetened condensed milk in the recipe, the original is defiantly dairy-free as is my recipe below!

Cook’s Note:

  • If you’d like to pipe the pineapple soft serve into cups as I did, then after step 1 place the mixture into the freezer for 20-30 minutes to harden a little. Next, place the mixture into a piping bag fitted with a large tip and pipe it into cups.
  • Leftover will keep in an airtight container in the freezer for 1 month.
  • When making these at home, we love adding a sprinkle of toasted coconut to the top.

  1. So sweet and so delicious!

  2. Elizabeth Hodge says:

Do you think you could fix this ahead of time and put in cups for serving and store in the freezer? I did not know if you have to keep in an air tight container.

    1. It depends on how long you’ll need to keep it in the freezer. If it’s less than 4 hours, I say go for it.

    2. Do you use the liquid and thick part of the
coconut milk or only the thick part?

  3. Can I freeze canned pineapple chunks for this recipe?

    1. You can, but it won’t taste the same because of the other additives in canned pineapple.

  4. What about serving this as a frozen whip in a fresh hallowed out pineapple with fruit skewers.

    1. That would be delicious, go for it!
