Best Guacamole Recipe
I love guacamole. And I mean L-O-V-E! It goes well with all sorts of Mexican food. You can slather it on sandwiches or simply dip it like it’s nobody’s business! Today I’m sharing my all-time FAVORITE guacamole recipe. It really is the best EVER!
I could be perfectly happy to eat homemade guacamole every single day. If I need a dip to bring to a party, the best bet is I am making this recipe. Also, if I am making Mexican food, I am 100% making this guacamole recipe to go along with it.
If I am making a sandwich, it is always a better sandwich with guacamole slathered on there. Grilling hamburgers? Yup, I’m adding guacamole to that thing! I could literally add guacamole to almost anything and it always makes it better. Save this recipe, because I am positive it will become one of your favorites too!
Bonus: It’s naturally gluten-free and dairy-free so it’s a great recipe to bring to a party no matter what other diets and sensitivities may be!
My favorite vessel for this green-gold is blue corn tortilla chips. I also dip all sorts of veggie into it, too. I’m talking carrots, celery, bell peppers, cucumbers, broccoli, and cauliflower.
How to Peel and Cut an Avocado
See the easier and improved “nick and peel” method HERE! This method is much safer and such a game-changer!
How to Make Guacamole:
To make this recipe you’ll need to start with ripe avocados. Then use the “Nick and Peel” method to peel the avocados and remove the pit.
Add the peeled avocados to a medium or large bowl. Just look at those beauties! Are you hungry yet?!
Add in the tomatoes, red onion, fresh cilantro, cumin, lime juice, and salt.
Smash with an avocado or potato masher to your desired consistency!
Scoop the guacamole into your favorite bowl and enjoy. (I got this one from Anthropologie years ago. Unfortunately, it is no longer available in stores, but you may be able to find it on eBay!)
Common Guacamole Recipe Questions Answered:
What is guacamole made of?
Keeping it simple is the key ingredient to making really good guacamole. California avocados are a must! Throw in some Roma tomatoes, red onions, chopped cilantro, the juice of a couple of limes, a little bit of salt and cumin and you are set!
Is homemade guac healthy?
Avocados are the main ingredient in guacamole. Avocados are high in fat; however, it is a healthy monounsaturated fat. The American Heart Association states that when healthy monounsaturated fats are used instead of saturated and trans-fat, this helps lower the bad cholesterol. That’s a healthy option in my book!
How do you make guacamole last longer?
According to Epicurious, there are 5 tested and proven methods that work to help make your guacamole stay fresh.
- First, you can seal it firmly with plastic wrap.
- The second method is to add in a lot of extra lime juice before sealing it tightly with saran wrap.
- The third way to keep it fresh is to sprinkle lime juice over the top of the guacamole, put the pit of the avocado into the center of the guacamole and then seal it with plastic wrap.
- Tip number four is to press olive oil onto the top of the plastic wrap and then firmly seal the plastic wrap over guacamole.
- The last tip is to sprinkle a little water over the top of the guacamole after you have pat it down. Firmly seal the plastic wrap over it and you will have fresh green guacamole and not brown!
Is it bad to eat guacamole that is brown?
According to the Hass Avocado Board, it is not recommended that you eat avocados that are brown. Fruit that is overly ripe can have a rancid smell. If the guacamole has become brown on the top layer but it is green underneath, you can take off the brown layer and still eat the green portion.
I’m not sure who loves guacamole more, me or my little munchkin! When I made it for this post he followed me around the kitchen saying “please, please”. Who could say no to that little face, right?
