Prague is one of Europe’s best-preserved cities with a stunning skyline of Gothic churches and colorful baroque buildings. Last month I was able to make my second trip to this beautiful capital city during my European Christmas Market trip! Prague’s endless historic buildings, cathedrals, palaces, and narrow, winding cobblestone streets are an indication of its centuries-old role as the capital of historic Bohemia.

Beautiful views of Prague

Prague is one of my all-time favorite European cities and I am thrilled I get to go back later this summer to explore more of this magnificent city! Here’s a list of Prague Points of Interest that you just can’t miss! The list includes my favorite sites, monuments, areas, and restaurants in of Praha.

Prague Points of Interest

Here’s a Google Map I made of my 8 favorite Prague Points of Interest.

Prague Castle Complex

Prague Castle Complex Grounds

Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world, occupying an area of almost 70,000 square meters. It’s a castle complex dating from the 9th century. It is the official office of the President of the Czech Republic.

St. Vitus Cathedral

St. Vitus Cathedral part of the Castle Complex in Prague

This cathedral is a prominent example of Gothic architecture and is the largest and most important church in the country. Located within Prague Castle and containing the tombs of many Bohemian kings and Holy Roman Emperors, the cathedral is under the ownership of the Czech government as part of the Prague Castle complex. At Christmas time they have a small Christmas market on the castle complex grounds with delicious local food and handmade trinkets.

St. Charles Bridge

Walking across the St. Charles Bridge in Prague, Czechia.

The St. Charles Bridge is a historic pedestrian bridge that crosses the Vltava river. Construction of the bridge started in 1357 and it was completed in the 15th century. This is the best way to get from Prague Castle to the city’s Old Town.

Old Town Prague

Old Town Prague part of Prague 1

Notable places in the Old Town include the Old New Synagogue, Old Town Square and Astronomical Clock. The Old Town is surrounded by the New Town of Prague. This area is also a shopper’s delight and a foodie’s paradise! Plan on spending some time exploring the different shops and working up an appetite!

Prague Astronomical Clock

The Prague Astronomical Clock in Prague 1.

A medieval astronomical clock that dates back to 1410! This impressive clock is the third oldest in the world and every hour on the hour you can watch the “Walk of the Apostles” an animated hourly show. According to legend, Prague will be in danger if they don’t maintain the clock. Good thing it was under repairs when I visited last month, it seems they’re taking that legend seriously!

Prague 1

Walking the beautiful streets of Prague 1.

Most of Prague 1 is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Almost all of Prague’s major tourist sites, including Prague Castle, Old Town Square, the Charles Bridge and the above-mentioned Jewish Quarter, are in the district. Around every corner you will find yourself saying “Prague, you are BEAUTIFUL!”.

Delicious fine dining in Prague.

After working up an appetite while walking the streets of Prague 1, dine at one of the best Italian restaurants outside of Italy called Divinis. It’s Italian Fine Dining and it’s a Michelin rated restaurant.

Kampa Island

Kampa Island in Prague, Czechia

If you’re looking for a bit of romance in Prague, then head to Kampa Island. It’s located in the Mala Strana (the Lesser Town) neighborhood of Prague. I think the streets here are among the most beautiful of the city. They wind above and over a canal filled with swans, and the streets are lined with beautiful hotels and restaurants. The main bridge over the canal is called Lover’s Bridge and you can attach a lock here with your sweetheart’s name. You can also take a boat ride to get up close to the beautiful architecture and the Grand Priory Mill wheel that has a diameter of over seven meters! The wheel is right across from one of them most beautiful café’s I’ve ever seen, called Velkopřevorský Mlýn. When I go back to Prague in July for an Anniversary trip I’m definitely going to take my husband here!

Lennon Wall

The Lennon Wall in Prague

On Kampa Island, you’ll also find the Lennon Wall. Since the 1980s the wall has been filled with John Lennon-inspired graffiti and pieces of lyrics from Beatles’ songs. During the communist regime of the 1980s, young Czechs would write their grievances on the wall. Today, the wall represents a symbol of global love and peace.
