Since moving away from Texas I’ve been looking for a good queso recipe. One of my favorite things to get for parties was Taco Cabana queso and tortillas.

The base recipe is pretty good, but for spice lovers it is a bit bland and missing something. I add 3 jalapeños and powdered cayenne pepper to taste and it tastes amazing. The cayenne pepper adds a needed kick as well as smokiness that the base recipe is lacking. Not sure how much cayenne I add, but I probably use at least a tablespoon.

If you don’t like things as spicy, I would still suggest adding just a little bit of cayenne pepper powder. It really does add a needed flavor to the queso.
