These Sweet and Sour Meatballs take the classic flavors of Sweet and Sour Pork, packed into cocktail meatballs! These are perfect for holiday entertaining.
This year I’m doing something really cool and partnering with the National Pork Board (NPB). To inspire people across the country to take the time to give and say thanks NPB will celebrate “Porksgiving” this year. It’s a time for giving back with pork recipes from November 2, 2015 thru the end of the year! Because there’s no better way to say thank you than with a home-cooked dish!
I know I’ve mentioned it before, but my hubby is a rock star. Without him this blog wouldn’t be possible. He supports me in everything I do and with everything I need to make this blog happen. Plus he’s an amazing dad. He’s very hands-on and our kiddos absolutely adore him. It makes my heart swell when I walk into a room and see a sweet scene like the one below of him reading to our kids. I know I do not say it enough; I am so, so, SO thankful for him!
I like to give back to him and show him my appreciation by what else; food! And let me tell you, he can sure eat! He’s a Marine and every day he works up a healthy appetite. He loves Sweet and Sour Pork, so I used that as an inspiration for this Thanksgiving appetizer. I’m in charge of h’orderves or appetizers this year at Thanksgiving, so I came up with this recipe for Sweet and Sour Meatballs. They’re the perfect little cocktail meatball that pack a lot of flavor!

Take the time to say thanks to someone who gives back – whether it’s loved ones who make time for their local community, a neighbor in the military or a co-worker who volunteers. HOW TO MAKE SWEET AND SOUR MEATBALLS:
- Gather all of the ingredients.
- Roll the meat into balls and cook.
- Cook the veggies.
- Add the meatballs, veggies and sauce to the pan to cook and reduce.
Cook’s Note – Sweet and Sour Cocktail Meatballs
- Make sure you use a nonstick skillet to cook the meatballs. If you don’t they’ll probably stick to the bottom of your pan and make a big ol’ mess!
- If you don’t have a large skillet, cook the meatballs in batches. Then once you get to step 5, transfer everything to a large saucepan or pot.
- When I serve these Sweet and Sour Meatballs as an appetizer I like to either serve them in a bowl and my guests can dish out the amount they’d like. Or I skewer them by layering the meatball with a slice of onion, bell pepper, and pineapple.
- To make these Sweet and Sour Meatballs into a meal, just serve them over rice! It will serve 4-6 people.
Sweet and Sour Cocktail Meatballs
- 1 ½ pounds ground pork
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- 2 bell peppers any color; 1 ½-inch dice
- 1 medium onion; 1 ½-inch dice
- 10 oz jar sweet & sour sauce
- 20 oz can pineapple juice drained with 1/3 cup of juice reserved
- In a large bowl add ground pork, egg, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper. Use your hands to mix evenly.
- Use a 1 ½ tablespoon scoop to scoop pork mixture, then roll into balls and place on a plate. Repeat with remaining pork. You should get 24-26 meatballs.
- Preheat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Nestle meatballs into skillet and cook until browned, about 5-6 minutes. Gently turn each meatball over and cook until golden, about another 3-4 minutes.
- Remove meatballs from pan and place on a paper towel-lined plate. Drain off all but 1 tablespoon of pan grease.
- Add diced bell pepper and onion. Cook on medium-high until the edges start to brown, but the veggies are still crisp, about 3 minutes. To the pan add sweet & sour sauce and reserved pineapple juice; stir until combined. Add pineapple chunks and meatball. Gently toss to cover in sauce. Bring mixture to a bubble, then reduce heat to simmer and cook 15-20 minutes. Serve!
