Whisk together the granulated sugar, raisins, water, vegetable shortening, and spices in a saucepan for ten minutes.

After ten minutes, remove the pot from the heat, whisk the mixture, and let it cool for ten minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350F. Whisk in the beaten eggs. Then, sift in the flour, baking soda, and salt.

Mix the ingredients together with a rubber scraper until combined. Stir in the vanilla and walnuts.

Pour the batter into the cake pan. Bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
