Place the steamer basket or trivet into the Instant Pot insert. Pour in the water.
Place the eggs on top of the basket or trivet.
Put the lid on so it is in the locked position, and adjust the pressure release so it is set to “Sealing”. Press the Manual button and set the cooking time to 5 minutes and set the pressure to HIGH.
While the eggs cook, prepare an ice bath by pouring 4 cups of water and 4 cups of ice cubes into a large bowl.
When the eggs have cooked for 5 minutes, let the pressure in the instant pot to naturally release for 5 minutes. Next, move the pressure release valve to “Venting” until all of the remaining steam is released.
Open the Instant Pot and carefully place the eggs into the ice bath and let them cool for 5 minutes.
Finally, peel the hard boiled eggs when you’re ready to eat them or use them in a recipe.
