While the smoker heats, peel and slice the apples and add them to a large bowl with lemon juice. Set aside
Make the Topping:
Whisk together all ingredients except the butter
Add the softened butter and mix until well combined. You can also add all ingredients to the food processor to speed up the process.
Make Apple Mixture:
Add granulated sugar and cinnamon to the bowl of apples and toss to coat
Evenly add apple mixture to 9 inch cast iron skillet
Add topping until the apples are completely covered
Smoke Crisp:
Place the crisp on the smoker, check every 20 minutes moving the skillet as needed to get even cooking. Cook until apples are tender and crisp topping is browned and mixture is nice and bubbly. 45-60 minutes.
Remove from your smoker and let it rest for 20 minutes. Serve warm with your favorite ice cream and toppings.
