Hi Folks,

It’s Halloween, so it’s time to bring out this zombie bait! It’s a Halloween Chex mix covered in candy melts and thrown together with sprinkles and sour gummy worms.

I think it’s an adorable and fun snack for adults and kids. Giving some away at parties, work, and school is even more fun.

What I Love About Halloween Chex Mix:

  • It’s a simple recipe to make with your kids. Depending on their age, you can have fun teaching them how to measure, mix, melt, and break apart the Chex mix.
  • You can customize the mix with different colored candy melts and sprinkles.

How To Make Halloween Chex Mix

Like all the best snack recipes, this one is very easy. As I said, get the kids involved!

To make Zombie Bait Chex mix:

  1. In a medium-sized heat-safe bowl, melt the candy melts in the microwave for 30 seconds on 50% power. Stir and repeat microwaving until the chips are completely melted.
  2. In a large bowl, pour the candy melts over the Chex. Stir carefully until the Chex is coated.
The melted candy melts added to a bowl of rice Chex.
  3. Spread the mixture out over parchment paper or wax paper.
  4. Add the sprinkles on top and let cool and harden for about an hour.
  5. Break apart, add the Trolli Sour Bite Crawlers, and either serve immediately or store in an air-tight container.
The coated Chex is on a rimmed baking sheet with the candy and sprinkles added to it, and then it is broken apart once hardened.

Serving and Storage Tips

Serve: Enjoy this Halloween Chex Mix immediately or set it aside for later (see storage tips below).

Store: If you have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container. Stored at room temperature, the mix will stay fresh for up to 5 days. Just be sure to keep it sealed—nobody wants stale zombie bait, right?

Recipe FAQs

How long does it take to make zombie bait?

This super-simple recipe requires maybe 5 minutes of hands-on prep time. The rest of the time, you’re just waiting for the bait to harden so you can break it up! (Usually, it takes about an hour.)

What are some other color combinations I can use for the candy melts?

If the green isn’t doing it for you (or you just can’t find it), I also recommend using a combination of orange, black, and purple candy melts. Basically, any Halloween colors!

What else can I add to my Halloween Chex mix?

If you want to get a little more creative with the recipe (or just indulgent!), try adding the following:

  • Themed candies in the shape of bloodshot eyes, bloody bones, etc (usually on sale at this time of year)
  • Pretzel sticks/bits
  • M&Ms (again, Halloween-colored ones are usually on sale!)
  • Chocolate chips (white, dark, whatever you enjoy)
  • Halloween-themed cereals (Boo Berry, Count Chocula, etc)
