How to Clean a Stand Mixer

Around the holidays, my kitchen goes from residential to commercial. I’m cranking out pies, cakes, cookies, candies, and more daily. But, of course, all of these delights end up in the hands of friends, neighbors, and co-workers or as part of a holiday spread.

I love making things for others, but the last thing I want to do is get someone sick because I didn’t clean something thoroughly enough. That’s why I like to give my pots, pans, and Kitchen Aid stand mixer a deep cleaning before the holidays hit. So today, I’m sharing my secret to cleaning your stand mixer.

Are you ready for my secret?

Okay, lock your doors, close the curtains, and be sure no one is reading over your shoulder. Here it goes:

Dawn. That’s it, folks, Dawn. It has all the grease and gunk-fighting power you need to tackle your stand mixer.

Materials needed to clean a stand mixer

I used a bowl, warm water, Dawn, a kitchen sponge, and a few Q-tips to clean my stand mixer. Here’s what you do:

  • Apply a squirt of Dawn to a sponge/dish cloth under warm running water. (I let the extra suds collect in my bowl.)
  • Scrub the greasy surface, and watch Dawn put grease and gunk in its place.
  • Dry the surface with a paper towel, and that’s it.
  • Use the Q-tips to get into little crevices of the stand mixer.

And that’s it. In no time, you’ll have a sparkling, clean stand mixer. Here are some before and after shots:

I had some caked-on grease on the side of my stand mixer, nothing Dawn and a little elbow grease couldn’t solve!

Cleaning Kitchen Aid 2

I don’t know about you, but I always forget to wipe down the under part of my stand mixer. So, as you can see, it desperately needed a good cleaning.

Don’t forget about the bowl cradle. Grease and gunk love to collect down here.

My worst kitchen cleaning nightmare is the oven or range hood. But Dawn is my go to product for that as well!

    1. Yes, the range hood! Good to know Dawn works on that!

I hate cleaning the fridge because I don’t like it to be dirty at all. Thanks for the chance to enter.

My worst kitchen cleaning job has to be cleaning my oven. My husband bakes a homemade pizza that just drips pepperoni oil and cheese all over the bottom of my oven. I tried using an oven liner and it caught on fire.

  6. Marguerite Core says:

I’m with the oven gang, but my real loathing is for the cook-top. I really don’t like when things get to the point that I have to remove the burner grates and soak them (in Dawn of course!).

  7. I dislike cleaning the greasy range hood the most since it is more difficult to reach all the nooks and crannies.

    The range hood!

I try to clean all splatters and anything food wise from my stove, microwave, and or any appliance I use. The fridge is the most trouble to me.

  10. Very good tips on the base unit! Thanks. Having this chance to win is also nice. Thanks.

  11. Mine is always the stove top and oven.

  12. Cheryl Rahkonen says:

My worst kitchen cleaning job for me is cleaning my lower cabinets. Since I had my knees replaced, I am unable to kneel or squat to clean the lower cabinets and I have to have someone do it for me. Having someone clean my cabinets is the worst–I like doing everything myself and it is extremely difficult to let go and let someone else do it.

  13. Krista E. says:

I can’t stand the “stuff” the collects in the crevice between the stove and the counter. Blech!

Stove is the worst I take care of my elderly mom and she is soooo messy

  16. My sink….I feel like it’s so gross and I can never get it clean

  19. Stacey Roberson says:

I have cleaning the stovetop. It’s such a pain to have to remove all the burner covers, let them soak, scrub the top, then have to dry everything and put it back. Ugh!
