Orange Sherbet With Pineapple

I love making homemade frozen treats during the summer. There’s something about homemade that just tastes better, don’t you agree? I especially like to experiment with different flavors like this orange sorbet!

And this pineapple orange sherbet is so, so easy to make. You only need five ingredients: milk, orange juice, orange zest, sugar, and crushed pineapple. With a little time and practically zero effort, you have a family-friendly dessert everyone at home will love.

Sherbet isn’t sorbet or ice cream! Today we’re making sherbet. This has dairy, whereas sorbet doesn’t. Conversely, ice cream’s main ingredients are cream or milk. Sherbet includes cream or milk but tends to focus on the fruity flavors. (Like pineapple!)

Every so often, when the weather’s warm, I like to pull out all my favorite citrusy, tropical desserts for a feast of tangy treats. My favorites include pineapple smoothies, pineapple cake, and even pina colada cupcakes.

Why You’ll Love Orange Sherbet

  • Refreshing and Summery: Orange pineapple sherbet is perfect for hot summer days. It offers a refreshing and cooling sensation, making it an ideal dessert to beat the heat.
  • Tropical Flavor Combination: The combination of orange and pineapple creates a tropical flavor profile that is both tangy and sweet. The citrusy notes from the orange and the tropical sweetness of the pineapple complement each other, resulting in a delightful and balanced taste.
  • Easy to Make: Making orange pineapple sherbet at home is relatively simple. You can create this homemade frozen treat with just a few ingredients and an ice cream maker.

Pineapple Orange Sherbet: Storage & Serving Tips

SERVE: As stated, you can serve this soft after churning or freeze it overnight. I like the soft consistency of this pineapple orange sherbet as soon as it comes out of the ice cream maker.

STORE/FREEZE: Like any ice cream or frozen treat, you’ll want to keep this stored in the freezer! Use a 3-quart air-tight container, which you can find online on Amazon or (generally) at the grocery store.

THAW: To thaw the sherbet, leave it on the counter at room temperature for 10 minutes.

Orange Sherbet With Pineapple FAQs

How much sherbet does this make?

This will produce 2.5 quarts of sherbet or so. This will feed about ten people, more or less.

How long does it take to make pineapple orange sherbet?

The active prep time is only 5-10 minutes. The rest is letting your milk mixture come to room temperature, chilling the sherbet, etc. It’s not a fast recipe, but it is very simple!

What toppings taste best on pineapple orange sherbet?

I recommend topping this sherbet recipe off with chocolate sprinkles and toasted nuts. My fave? Toasted coconut!

How long will it take for the sherbet to churn?

It’ll depend on what kind/brand of ice cream maker you make. Generally, for us, it takes about a half hour.

Can you use something else besides the orange juice?

Orange soda will also work in this recipe, though I recommend using orange juice. It makes the sherbet tangy in a way soda doesn’t.
