Brittney says:
“I generally never comment on blog or recipe posts I see online. BUT I just wanted to stop by and say that I’ve made this the past three years for family and work holiday events and everyone always asks me to make it again. I’ve also had a tough time finding the Andes chips, so I’ve always made it with crushed candy canes. It is a serious hit, and I can’t imagine making anything else each Christmas! So thank you for posting this recipe 🙂”
Valerie says:
“I made this recipe, to take to a Christmas party, and everyone loved it! I could not find the Andes Peppermint candies, so I processed some candy canes. Thank you for the great ideas!”

How To Make Peppermint Dip:
***For complete recipe instructions, see the recipe card below.
- First, beat the cream cheese until smooth.
- Next, add the sugar and peppermint extract and mix until smooth.
- Then add in the cool whip until combined.
- Finally, stir in the Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips and serve.
Recipe Variations
- I like a milder Peppermint flavor and add only ¼ teaspoon of extract. If you want more peppermint kick, wait to add more extract until after you add in the Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips, as those add peppermint flavor, too.
- If Cool Whip isn’t your thing, use freshly whipped cream instead. You will need 1 ½ cups of heavy whipping cream whipped to the stiff peaks stage, then use it in the recipe like you would the cool whip. Just note that when you use homemade whipped cream, this recipe will remain in the fridge for no longer than 24 hours.
- Instead of the Andes baking chips, you can use ½ cup chopped candy canes and ½ cup chopped white chocolate.
Candy Cane Dip Storage Tips:
SERVE: Serve immediately after making the dip and serve with chocolate-covered pretzels, chocolate graham crackers, Oreo cookies, and chocolate wafers.
STORE: This dip will keep, covered in the refrigerator, for up to 5 days.
FREEZE: You can freeze this cheesecake dip, but just be aware that the quality will not be as good. To freeze, transfer to a freezer-safe container and freeze for 1-2 months.
THAW: Thaw in the refrigerator overnight.

Oh wow – I love this recipe! Just in time for my holiday party this weekend too 🙂
Enjoy! 🙂
Can this be made the night before a party?
Absolutely it can be made the night before. Enjoy! P.S. I just posted a recipe for a gingerbread cheesecake dip, too.
Are the Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking Chips pieces of chocolate or are they basically mini broken candy cane pieces? Just trying to figure out what to look for at the store!
They’re pieces of chocolate with a candy cane crunch. I found them at Walmart on their holiday baking display near the baking isle. I’ve also seen them at Target and my local Vons/Safeway store. Hope this helps!
Hi Jillian,
I made this recipe, to take to a Christmas party, and everyone loved it! I could not find the Andes Peppermint candies so I processed some candy canes. Thank you for the great ideas!
Valerie
Val,
I’m SO glad everyone loved it! Adding the broken up candy canes is great idea…especially when you need to get rid of some.
This looks so yummy to serve during the holidays and I bet it’s a huge hit not only with the adults but with the kids as well. Definitely adding this to my holiday cookbook!
I must try this one! Yummy!
can you freeze this?
Yes, you can absolutely freeze this! Just thaw it and give it a quick stir before serving. Enjoy!
I could not find Andes Peppermint Crunch Baking chips at my grocery store. Do you think I could sub the traditional Andes Creme De Menthe candies if I chop them up?
You can, but I would not use peppermint extract, I would just use mint extract.
P.S. I was just in Target and Walmart this eek and both stores had the Anders Peppermint Baking Chips.
I don’t know how to explain this…but it feels like it’s missing something. I LIKE it, but I can’t figure out what makes it fall just short of LOVING it. I went the fresh whipped cream route, maybe the Cool Whip brings a different texture or flavor? It’s peppermint enough for me but I might add more next time just to see.
FYI, if you can’t find the Andes chips (they are heavenly though) I bet you could use Hershey’s Kisses Candy Cane flavor. It’s essentially the same thing, just larger so you would have to chop them fine.

Yay! I’m so glad you love the recipe! I make it every year as well. 🙂

This is going to be a hit at my Holiday party!! I love this, can’t wait
Yum! This would be such a hit with the kids at our holiday party! Love the idea. I would sub the Andes cookies for something locally available, here where I live in Switzerland. Thanks for sharing!
