Deliciously Creamy Velveeta Cheese Dip
CONFESSION TIME: I have a secret love affair with chips and queso. I’d have it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if I could. My Velveeta queso recipe is creamy, dreamy, and studded with chopped green chiles. This dip has just the right amount of heat from the peppers and chiles. It’s super creamy, cheesy, and smooth due to the Velveeta cheese. It is delicious served as an appetizer. But it is so good I love to use it in other ways too.
You can drizzle it over these Chicken Fajitas, top off some Mexican Rice with it, smother your favorite burrito with the sauce, or even spread it onto your hamburger. This is one recipe you can repeatedly make without getting tired of it! I also like serving my Refried Beans in the crockpot next to this chips and queso dip for parties. The refried beans help cut through the richness of the queso.
What is Velveeta?
Velveeta is a cheese product made with a blend of cheeses, whey, and milk protein concentrate. It is smooth, creamy, and melts easily. It is often used in dips, mac and cheese, and other dishes that require an easily melted cheese. However, the FDA does not consider Velveeta real cheese because it contains stabilizers and preservatives.
Is Velveeta queso blanco spicy?
You can make this dip as spicy or as mild as you’d like. Just purchase mild, medium, or hot green chiles.

How To Make Velveeta Queso Blanco
This Velveeta cheese dip is easy to make. Cutting, stirring, and microwaving are the main steps. Here’s how to make it:
- First, cut up the cheese into cubes. Place the cubes into a microwave-safe bowl.
- Then, add the green chilies, jalapenos, and milk to the bowl and give it a quick stir.
- Lastly, microwave the mixture in 2-minute increments until creamy and smooth. Serve with tortilla chips, and get dippin’!

Can this easy Queso Blanco be made in a crockpot?
Definitely, a little more time is all you need to make this dip in the crockpot. Put all of the ingredients in the crockpot and cook on low for 1-2 hours. Stir the mixture until it is creamy and smooth and then keep the slow cooker on warm for serving.
Can this recipe be made ahead of time and reheated?
You can absolutely make this dip ahead of time. Follow the instructions to make it and then store it in the fridge. Just before you are ready to serve it, reheat it in the microwave. As you mix the dip, you may need to add more milk to help the dip get to the consistency it should be at.
Velveeta Queso Blanco Recipe Tips
- If you are serving this dip shortly after making it, then allow it to sit for 1 minute before serving. This will allow the mixture to thicken to the perfect queso blanco consistency!
- You can make this dip as spicy or as mild as you’d like. Just purchase mild, medium, or hot green chiles.
- If you’re looking for a less processed version of this dip, then you need to check out my white queso with green chiles.

How to Serve and Store this Queso Blanco Dip
SERVE: If you plan on serving this Velveeta queso blanco dip over an extended period of time, like for tailgating or a Super Bowl party, then transfer the prepared dip to a crockpot set to warm. Give the queso blanco dip a quick stir before serving it.
STORE: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
FREEZE: This dip does not freeze and defrost well. Therefore, I do not recommend freezing it.
Reheating Queso Blanco:
There are a few ways to reheat a homemade queso dip. Here are a few methods:
- Microwave: Transfer the dip to a microwave-safe bowl and heat on high for 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until heated through.
- Stovetop: Heat the dip in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until heated through.
- Oven: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Transfer the dip to an oven-safe dish and bake for 10-15 minutes or until heated.

Since moving away from Texas I’ve been looking for a good queso recipe. One of my favorite things to get for parties was Taco Cabana queso and tortillas.
The base recipe is pretty good, but for spice lovers it is a bit bland and missing something. I add 3 jalapeños and powdered cayenne pepper to taste and it tastes amazing. The cayenne pepper adds a needed kick as well as smokiness that the base recipe is lacking. Not sure how much cayenne I add, but I probably use at least a tablespoon.
If you don’t like things as spicy, I would still suggest adding just a little bit of cayenne pepper powder. It really does add a needed flavor to the queso.
This recipe sounds delish. Never tried it but definitely will. Yours looks so yummy!
This was so delicious! I wish I would have found your recipe before the super bowl. It was that good.

OOOH that looks delish! I can’t wait to try it, thanks!
Nancy, I think it would work with any queso blanco as long as it’s a processed cheese product. I would also add in a total of 3 cans of chilies if the queso doesn’t have any in it already.
P.S. I’m your newest foller as well!
Suzie, thanks so much!
